Strange men in love with strange Gods made strange rules we abide by.
And I always thought that's alright. It didn't bother me.
At least until I fell in love with you.

The world's at war my friend said, and it's all because of God.
Another friend would argue with him, but I didn't care.
Until my mother said not to be with you.

Not even to be seen with you.

And something in me broke.

I never cared for God and never thought
Anyone else cared too much. It all seemed
Just something trivial. "God Bless, God be with you,
Praise God" I thought these were only words.
I thought God was only a word.
And then when I told my Dad of you,
He gave me the coldest stare,
And in the coldest words told me to stop.
"Are you insane? What will people say?"
And said I couldn't be with you.

My mother always said God was in my life,
That in everything I did His presence was there,
But I never felt God more in my life
Until they said I couldn't be in love with you.

Marie Cadavieco The PoetBay support member heart!
Ah, forbidden love... how it can change our view of life, of God, our family, of all we were taught to hold dear.

This poem expresses so poignantly and beautifully that moment when it all comes crashing down, because the 'wrong person' has captured our heart.

If his biggest fans are to be believed, God is a bigot and sexist who encourages others to commit murders and atrocities in his name.

Thoughtful and confessional in mood and tone. I'm fond of this
poem, too. Great job!

one trick pony The PoetBay support member heart!
i'm pretty fond of this poem. there is the faith-logic argument, and there is the love aspect. both good. you tied it all together nicely, sweetly, without venom.
