Notebook: October 14

Winter is lurking,

furtive, behind this

redleaf cider weather
of sweaters, windbreakers,
and comfortable five-mile hikes:

whelm me with your draughts
of gin-like cold, of gale and gust!

Beautiful. Winter in poetry!

Autumn is grand, overall. It's the late fall and early winter that bothers, like the waning light of dusk, where driving west all you see is orange and red. It's a supreme pleasure to sup on the last 6 lines!

I appreciate the execution, but not the sentiment.

"Gin-like cold" is excellent.
