The title is Greek for "gracious light" or "gladsome light." There is an ancient Christian hymn/prayer called the Phos Hilaron.
Phos Hilaron
When morning's
gladsome light
makes bold to speak,
she shapes
your radiant words,
your gentle voice.
When darkness
puts a fretful
commonwealth
to bed,
all sleepers dream
your dream of peace.
When nightstars pray,
they're borrowing
your long
deep silences
in which they shine
and thrive.
