The title is Greek for "gracious light" or "gladsome light." There is an ancient Christian hymn/prayer called the Phos Hilaron.

Phos Hilaron

When morning's

gladsome light

makes bold to speak,

she shapes

your radiant words,

your gentle voice.

When darkness

puts a fretful

commonwealth

to bed,

all sleepers dream

your dream of peace.

When nightstars pray,

they're borrowing

your long

deep silences

in which they shine

and thrive.

your natural ability to bring "gracious light" into your poetry, and into our world, gladdens me with every new poem, this one with a gentle, abiding tone.
