Eating Silence

Earthquake screams and jumps off—

Shaking nightstands, wastebaskets, coffee mugs;

Books fly off the shelves, explode, scatter all over,

Brass buttons blow up like popcorn,

Buildings sway in the ominous dance with death—

Afterward, we eat silence.

I like the list of things that the earthquake shakes, and the brass buttons blowing up like popcorn. Bravo!
