Yucky Garbage

On Franklin Street one sunny day
A little girl reaches down for something shiny in the gutter
And her dad tells her sternly
Don't pick that up      That's yucky garbage
And the girl seems disappointed

Maybe a few years from now
When she's older and independent
She'll gather all the shiny things that we have tossed away
And make a multifaceted sculpture from the glittering debris
And call it Yucky Garbage Sculpture #1
And she'll become a successful artist
And she'll thank her dad for being
Her strength and motivation
