han shan's poetry   which i used to revere

now leaves me cold

he is a man who chose solitude

over human company   i find that selfish

beyond words   colin's grandfather   as widower

is solitary   not by choice   but

by circumstance and age   he is content

or sadly content

or resigned   or some of each

but he would not choose this isolation

in fact   i am furious

at han shan for touting the life he did   shame on him

for neglecting his sisters and brothers of the world

so that he might free himself to contemplate . . . himself
