A century or so ago, progressive, civic-minded immigrants settled the Great Plains. They set up public schools, agricultural co-ops and public utilities. Now, the Plains are occupied by their sullen, selfish, reactionary descendants.

You're a Disgrace

Your great granddad would have grabbed
His pitchfork and come after you if you'd
Told him what you tell me: that you've no
Use for public schools, or, really, public
Anything. You whine when asked to pay your
Taxes, howl in anger anytime somebody says
You have to keep the chemicals you use
From poisoning the nearby lakes and streams,
And you want no more immigration. You'd
Have kept your ancestors from coming here
To build what you say you built on your own.
You're dull and selfish and entitled, just the sort
Your great granddad sailed westward to escape.
