Your Republican NeighborHe's a nice enough guy. He's friendly,
And, now that he knows you, faithful
As somebody's dog. He likes to talk
Sports, and he's sweet to your children.
He's decent to everyone living nearby,
But he doesn't like people with dark-
Colored skin, and he doesn't like women
With high-paying jobs, and he loves
The police and the flag and the army,
And loves how he built his own
Business from scratch. He's a man
Who has bettered himself through
Ambition, and he knows that you also
Are. There was no special privilege
Which brought him success, and he sees
No reason to pay taxes to try to help
Others. They don't deserve health care,
Or housing, or college. They're deadbeats.
Yes, that's what they are, he says, as he
Waits to be handed a hotdog. You smile.
You've misjudged. He's really your nemesis.
Maybe he'll choke and you'll have enough
Time to call people of color and women
Executives to come and watch as he dies.
