Face the Facts

When you wake up, maybe the tear gas
Will do it. Maybe the pepper spray into your
Face will make clear to you that you have
Lived in a dream. You can carry your placard,
March down a street, and they'll let you, so long
As your protest is brief and unnoticed, but should
Others join you, and those in the crowd begin
Calling for actual change, then the goons will
Arrive. They'll be masked. They will beat
You. They'll beat everybody. They'll “secure”
The streets, so that what's always gone on,
The quiet corruption, will go undisturbed,
And you'll stay where you are, second-class,
Subjugated, the same sort of person who'd
Hoped to be helped out by Gandhi or King.
But, of course, both of them were gunned
Down. Peaceful protest is pointless. Be
Smart. If they're going to club you and jail
And kill you, retreat underground, buy
A rifle. Be patient, and kill every one you
Can find.
