Some Mystery Behind It

Why do we credit

beautiful persons

for their beauty

as if it were

a deed well done?

It's odd, but inevitable,

we always do this,

don't we? There's some

mystery behind it.

Maybe we love the faces

whose ordinariness

is transfigured by

the art of kindness

into something luminous

and so, after all,

they do

deserve the praise!

I have been pondering a similar question lately. We gush over the beautiful, but they are unable to become more than objects to us. Not being beautiful myself, I can't say for sure, but I suspect that those who are may consider their condition to be a curse.

Curious haw Hollywood has driven us to value physical beauty in ourselves and others. Yet the luminescence that most people exhibit is only seen in their acts of kindness.

You’ve posed the conundrum well Thomas.
