Supernumerary
I am the silhouette you see at twilightStanding alone on the railway platform,
The one who is jaywalking just down
The street, the sad sack who's eating
His “dollar deal” burger a few tables
Over from you and your friends.
I am nobody, everyone, unknown,
Superfluous, mote from the great
Clod of billions who've smothered
The planet. I'm silent and proximate,
But never noticed, like most
Of the people you pass.
