Inspired by Ken D Williams' poem LIGHT, which I acknowledge with gratitude.

Let There Be Light

Sometimes light whispers,

and sometimes light shouts,

and sometimes light clears its throat impatiently.

Sometimes the dust of a room full of books

gets noticed more quickly

in the day-glare.

Sometimes we keep the light out:

with shutters, with window-shades,

with venetian blinds.

Sometimes "natural" light

ill-suits our purposes,

and we switch on the lamp,

happy with the more moderate glow

of an energy-saving bulb.

Sometimes, at solemn moments,

at holy moments,

we need the lively flicker

of a candle.

And sometimes

we need an open sky

in a rural field,

where nothing obscures

the myriad lights

of illimitably distant stars.

Now as Spring is in the air
Light more each day
Days appear longer by the day
As nigh darkness shorthorns
