I've loaded the dice of this poem, if it be a poem, rather too heavily. But I thought I'd post it in spite of that. (And I do like many things about Pope Leo, his labour-friendly encyclical, and his love of the Rosary, which I share.)
Jennifer
If my reader will forgive
trans-credal appropriation,
Jennifer my confessor
is a living mi shebeirach.
So many priests
of the Anglican Communion,
Jennifer among them,
are working to heal the world,
to minister to its ravages,
to help build back
where there is havoc
of matter or of spirit.
A hundred years ago,
good Pope Leo declared
all Anglican ordinations
"invalid, null and void."
Jennifer's priesthood
isn't Vatican-approved,
but what she does,
what Christ does through her,
is far from meaningless:
blessing the broken-hearted,
binding up all their wounds,
and embodying mercy
to those who have despaired of it.
