Twelve Haiku for a Tiresome Day

1.

dreams of Bashō’s frog

between sleep and wakefulness

the slimy dawn croaks!

2.

on the balcony

sparrows peck at rice and maize

my tea cools/complains

3.

the taste of springtime

in every sip of peach tea

today’s slow startle

4.

recalling the days

long-lost in snow, dreaming of

apricot blossoms

5.

frequent silences

between my endless Zoom calls

ah, the drudgery!

6.

a colleague says if

things will ever be normal

the news screams a NO!

7.

kitchen melody

clattering/clunking of life

may I unexist?

8.

up in the terrace

sans madness of cyberspace

calmness caressing

9.

days fly, unhurried

wind-swept dandelion seeds

teaching me nothing

10.

in a moonless night

your eyes shine like earthen lamps

I yearn for my youth

11.

solitary night

cold rice/yesterday’s curry

darn my universe!

12.

this jaded body
awaits sleep’s silken embrace
but these howling dogs . . .

I really liked these especially in sequence with each other. It seemed a collage that was more than the sum of its parts.

Ooh, very good, Bibek. So much to enjoy here, not least the sparrows, peach tea, apricot blossoms, dandelion seeds, and even the howling dogs. The concise descriptions are very effective and we like the overall mood too :>)

Thoroughly enjoyed these Bibek. Very innovative use of language and style. A pleasure to read.

Such panache and inventiveness, with nods to predecessors, and daring shifts of idiom. I love "slow startle" and "darn my universe!" and so many other moments in this virtuoso display of your poetic wares. These small poems coruscate with a contagious delight.
