ABOUT FIVE YEARS GO
I one evening I went to an open mic eveningThat evening England were playing a Euro footy game
Very few were in the pub - as you can imagine
Just us few poets were in - we waited & waited plain
To see who were there were going to be just us no others
Some one suggested we may as well give a reading all the same
I volunteered to be the first
I chose one of my World War One works
I'd be barely began reading
When the doors of the pub were thrown open - by then I we knew England had lost
I - we the poets were somewhat concerned at what kind of mood the soccer fans would be!
I had started - it were late to stop & chose anther work to read - so I resumed
To our shock - to our amazmant - as the pub filled up with dischuffed - unhappy England fans I continued reading - to be fair - no piss taken - I were given a listen
When I had finished - one footy fan said: ' Like you were telling of me! '
Poetry did the trick! Poetry is cool!
