The Sun Caught Fire

Watching the news the other day
the sun caught fire in California
The forests burned to ashes
like the sorrow in my heart

The embers flew like lightning rods
spreading their destruction
Trees exploded in the sky and
scattered on the mountains

Like funeral pyres houses collapsed
consumed by flames of tragedy
And a rain of tears could not extinguish
the sound of nature dying

one trick pony The PoetBay support member heart!
This vivid, and rending, as are the fires and tragedies we witness (either first-hand or otherwise).

There's good drama in this poem, and I like the ending. But do all the images work? I'm especially concerned about line 2 -- the sun is already on fire, and it's not in California.
