Oh I wonder if you remember a song?

Scratch of Land

This very scratch of land where dreams were made,
Where I kissed my first boy and his hand
Felt so naughty that my stomach bounced off to the
Twinkling extremities of the universe.

Where I coughed up my entire left lung after
My first "proper" inhale on Benson and Hedges Gold,
Aged 13, because it was about time to be daring
(As if a roaming hand wasn't enough)

Where I cried a whole ocean,
Because my best friend Mandy was allowed,
And I was being brought up with rules perpendicular to my plans

This very scratch of land,
Whispers to me about the death drop metal slide
That would burn your hamstrings in summer
Or suprise you with a water luge in Autumn

Might not be nothing much to gawp at
If you were say, Sir David Attenborough, but,
Harry Potter would struggle to control the deep magic here

The beetles were moshing like hardcore rock legends
And the butterflies their groupies
As we sung the number 1
And danced like Legs and Co

And they want to build so many houses...
When that's done
Feel sure if I poke into the brickwork facade,
The mortar'll still be wet and "ticky tacky"

With reference to the last line....

A nice piece of poetry which paints some very evocative images - especially to someone, like myself, who knows who 'Legs & Co' were. :)

I especially like, and appreciate, the honesty and openness that the poet allows the reader to see. "I'll give it five!"
