todays appalachian vocab word: gullywasher ahah

that flood in hurley

came a gullywasher
and didn't stop for several days
creek beds were rising like bread
and we knew we were due for a flood

down in Hurley, they got people missing
tree trunks and muddy water in the roads
reminded me of this VHS my dad had when I was a kid
a home movie of an old flood in the 80's, I reckon it was

i remember my eyes being glued to that bulky tv
asking how come the cars were floating
how come the roads became rivers and streams
i hid that VHS near another movie with Jesus on the cover bleeding

something about that crown of thorns hurt me
just as much as noah's ark not showing
and I considered both to be horror films that I didn't want to see
but here I was now, grown, not able to turn a blind eye
