A rondel on time spent with family

Surrounded by sounds of family and friend

Surrounded by sounds of family and friend,
I ponder my role in the world that I’m in.
As I drift through this life while struggling to grin,
I’m stuck with the knowledge it one day will end.

Despite knowing well all the patches I tend
(which support all the lives of those I call kin),
surrounded by sounds of family and friend,
I ponder my role in the world that I’m in.

And yet as I sit here, my doubts my kin mend,
as laughter and smiles and memories begin.
I find that a moment of pause is just when
the meaning of life I can comprehend,
surrounded by sounds of family and friend.

Lady Courtaire
Love the musical lilt to these lines! "Surrounded by sounds of family and friend" is such a pleasing refrain.

You've done a great job capturing that out-of-body experience that mysteriously arises from time to time in the midst of merriment, where all of it suddenly seems so pointless. What a relief those moments are almost always fleeting, as you've described here - easily banished by the joy of our loved ones.

Lovely rondel!

I'm impressed by how concise, and to the point, this is (as well as working within a challenging form). Bravo.
