Daughter
I know you try not to sit next to heartache. But some times, on the bus,
Or at the cinema
Or in our kitchen,
The seat is already taken.
It surprises me often,
That your burden forces you
To carry icy stones,
That lay corpse still on your smile,
Or suffer arrows that pierce beneath the battered armour.
I know no other like you.
I think you must be forged out of the mountains
That bring the rivers to the sea
For you are truly incredible
And I dare to walk the footsteps you leave
