Slice straight through this town tonight
Hot knife through butter.

There will be TV watchers
And sleepers who dream

Drivers on rainy streets
Mothers who coo

Dogs who bark or wag or yawn
Lovers blanking all in a kiss

Shift workers, priests,
Each with a burden

Shop owners weary and closing up
Glamour on high heels and lipstick

Needles, and beer cans and waste food wraps
Swirling in a tumbleweed style

And you and me and everybody else
Trudging on, in our way -
Apart, together.

Alan J Ripley The PoetBay support member heart!
I can relate to this,
In a family of four.
We live apart together.

Living outside of town this causes me some envy. Nature is well and good, but it's people that make a life whole.
