Compline: the night prayer of the church, especially of those in monastic vows, usually said around eight in the evening.

A Hymn at Compline

True Compassion, ceaseless Love,

Deep within and far above,

Shield us through the hours of rest;

Keep us safe till dawn, and blest.

Mercy certain, purest peace,

Bid our troublous worries cease:

Finished is another day:

Put our nagging faults away.

Hasten, heal the hurting soul:

Find us broken, make us whole.

Be our solacing in pain;

May your grace our hope sustain.

Kindler of the fires of night,

Source of wonder, gladdening light,

Grant us silence, stillness, space;

Turn to us your radiant face.
