Death of the doodle

A very young, recently conceived graffiti,
A mindless line from here to there,
Yet not a sketch, oh no.
It has a meaning, you know what I mean?
A doodle can be found in margins,
Sometimes in books,
It takes all sorts but not the liquorice sort of sorts,
It could be rude, it could be crude,
It could have artistic merit, but usually not,
The doodle is dying,
Save the doodle,
Mobile phones are doodle’s row of headstones,
Nobody doodles on a phone,
Emoji, like the grey squirrel is moving in and taking over,
Long live the doodle.

Great subject. Wish I still had my school books, full of doodles in the margins. Creativity at its best, long live the doodle.

Alan J Ripley The PoetBay support member heart!
Maybe you could start a petition, save the doodles.
That great russian philanthropist ivercold used to order
A bowl of doodles. Even me mum used to shout
Come on stop doodling about. Even one of my cousin's
Caught the doodle bug during the war.....
