Ode, sort of...kind of? to the fate of the stepfather. If at first you are offended, please read the whole thing and then see. Peace and Love Lacy

Foolish Old Man

She's filling his head with praises of him
You're amazing, incredible, better than ALL of them!
Such a foolish, foolish, foolish old man.

They want to get married, right now, right away
But her current divorce is holding up that day
Imagine that if you can.

He's letting her have all of mom's things
I'm sure he's buying her diamond rings.
Such a foolish, foolish, foolish old man.

He's paying for her to upgrade her house
She's probably already calling him her spouse.
Still don't think it's a scam?

Oh, he's done this before, it's not his first time
Finding his new wife somewhere online.
Such a foolish, foolish, foolish old man.

The last one took him for a whopping 12 Grand
Then dropped him on a dime, definitely all planned.
Now are you starting to understand?

This new one is seasoned; she knows what to do.
Her game is flawless and started with I love you
Such a foolish, foolish, foolish old man.

She tells him she's married 3 other men
Two of them dead; the other a wimpy hen
Tell me now, would you be a fan?

So, of course, we did a background check
Quiets as you please so not to put him on deck
Such a foolish, foolish, foolish old man.

Those first 2 husbands of hers, they are not dead
The third one she battered, that's what the papers said.
Now tell me, where do you stand?

To be totally honest I could care less
But negative energy only causes stress
Such a foolish, foolish, foolish old man

You have my blessings to try & save him from himself
Those negative things can sit on someone else's shelf
Foolish, foolish, foolish old man

F.i.in.e Moods The PoetBay support member heart!
The foolish old man is very well depicted here! It is difficult to understand how someone can be so oblivious to this kind of dishonesty even though it's slapping them right in the face. But maybe they aren't oblivious and that's what brings spice to their lives. Who knows? As a bystander though, after a while, it would have a way of naturally exasperating empathy and patience. Watching someone getting so obviously used is upsetting, especially if the victim(?) refuses to see it. The portrait of the man and the situation he finds himself in, and the effects on the one witnessing this, are so well detailed. I really could see and feel the whole deal! "He's letting her have all of mom's things" -- ooh, that sours things even more, I thought when I read that line. Nicely written, thanks.

I enjoyed - if that is the right term! This poem; particularly how you built it stanza by stanza - creating a story with moral
