may be deafening

may be companionable

may be self-protective

may be punishment

may be fraught

may be drenched in implication

what is this silence I hear

i hear the roar of emptiness

a conch shell held to my ear

surf crashing

gulls crying

an inner-dialogue

no less insistent than waves

we have voices
