Wrongness

The baby cried for hours, making a most
Dreadful rasping sound.  I knew
I wouldn't get to sleep.  The indicies
For stocks were down.  The Ukraine
War continued, as did our grotesque
Hypocrisy.  Someone found microplastics
In a snowfield in Antarctica, and half
A dozen kids were killed as profiteers
And Senators said guns cannot be banned.
A stuffy group of rich old assholes
Pondered making women slaves and told
A man who'd been condemned that,
Though there was new evidence that
He did not commit the crime, the state
Could kill him anyway.  The wrongness
Of this sordid world vexed me, like that
Baby's cry.  I stared down at the floor,
And thought, “I wish I was asleep.”
