mirror monologue

"I want better for you, I really do -
so you have to listen to me", I cried
I pushed back locks of knotty hair -
and looked myself in my irritated eyes

"You've grown too comfortable in agony
- and you're starting to finally find your footing
but I know that at the first ledge you find,
you will throw yourself off instead of trying"

"I don't want to hear your snotty nose,
I don't want the taste of salt from those blinding tears
I want you to show up and take control of your life,
because I'm tired and for once, I want you stay alive instead of in fear"

Oh, that second stanza is amazing. And the way the last line of the poem runs longer than the rest in such a disjointed way kinda seems like a wake up call. Nice.

"but I know that at the first ledge you find,
you will throw yourself off instead of trying"

This is good - damn good; sums up the manner in which we try to urge ourselves on to better things - Bravo!

yes, it's what I plight for youth: to deserve better than to what they are given...we live not on our renonciations but only to find it bitter
