what is unsaid resonates clearly

yet there are times

when words are wanted

moses has spent many words

and still 

zoey cannot find words in reply

silence   too   may resonate

samuel is gone 

without a word   without reason

or hint of reason

the suddenness was profound

it is hard to live with that degree of uncaring

and uncaring   surely

is what samuel was   and is

by dreams

beyond sanity's weak hold

fled

an act he neither

remembers nor understands

returning is a fear so vast   

so deep

that he is left paralyzed

musket and cannon   whizz

of hot lead and ball

reverberates by day   echoes by night

odor of death permeates his being

he is undone
