The Briefest Flash of Ambition
I'm in the mood to do something of moment
To transform this utterly mundane day,
But what should I do? I am out of ideas.
I'm too old to embark on some physical feat,
And it's raining. I doubt that I'll go outside.
I won't begin writing a masterpiece novel,
As I've lost all interest in reading the things.
Political protest? Oh, please, and it's raining.
Some household improvement? That sounds
Rather dull. It's beginning to look as if all
I will do is hack out a poem, maybe a couple,
And let the day pass, still mundane.
