Oxygen

Should the need arise (an unlikely prospect),
I'd happily write a poem for you professing
My useless, but undying love.  I would
Gush over how inexplicably pleasant each
Moment with you is, how truly, unfussily
Beautiful you've always been, and how you
And I have this gift for coaxing cattiness
Out of each other.  No one is safe from us
When we're together, but we never are.
You are being professional up in Seattle.
I'm punching a clock in Nebraska these days,
Loving you still, but unable to see you.
I pound on this keyboard, thinking, sometimes,
That I miss you, like oxygen, but you are
Gone.  Let me know if you need me to write.
