Eternal Damnation

Do you think that, if we hadn't had slaves,
We wouldn't have become obsessed with
Guns, that there'd be much fewer police
And prisons, that workers would see
That they had common interests, and stand
Up as one to the ruling class?  Probably so,
But we did have slaves, and that, maybe
More than our slaughter of natives,
Is what's left us vicious and crippled
And ugly.  It was our original sin.

Could it that we keep slaves for the slaves that we truly are within that cry out for amelioration? Those that enslave appear to be the more enslaved. Or so it would appear.
