learn to love, learn to hope, learn to be, then you'll cope

difficult learner

If I could just tell the child that I was -
about the comfort of clinging onto someone tightly
and letting all your tears just flow -
I do not think it would have taken this long

If I could just tell the child that I was -
about the peace of mind that comes with
owning all the jagged edges and ugly scars
I do not think it would have taken this long

Those years aren't really wasted
I know that, somewhere inside of myself
But I wish younger me could have appreciated
all the things I love now, all the long lost joy I have found

I guess I mourn for the childhood
I think I should've had
but who would I have been
if I hadn't kept looking back

I completely understand where you're coming from,
For myself you last stanza says it so eloquently.
We are the sum equal to all our parts,
Even so some of them still tear us apart.

My favourite line is the seventh, "the jagged edges and ugly scars." One feels that there are more poems latent in those very few words.
