Child soldier-an endangered childhood!
Siren's screeches scarcely scaresthe sophisticated
toddlers, prone now to learn and grow
not from leapfrog but dogfight,
mimicking
war-ridden games-reading
ceasefire terms as child diplomat
by bomb-light, in belted rain-coat
and combat boots. The defeated marshal,
subdued by napalm blast next door,
signs capitulated papers. negotiating
for armistice with an adder's hug.
Dragging his bleeding leg, pretending
to be bullet torn, the four year old-
the small human thing, losing
all idea of child play,
with a toy AK 47s, in guerrilla uniform,
sworn to kill or to be killed, monkeys
the adult power- built world
whose future paved
with stones of blood.
