WHY DO WE PRAY?

Why do we pray,
To a God who isn't there.
Who isn't seen to respond,
For some unfathomable reason,
Many believe he truly cares.
Who's existence we cannot disprove,
Even if we could we wouldn't dare.

Why don't we worship time,
It's constant and always there.
Not just spherical or linear,
Being horizontal or vertical.

Time must be omnipotent,
As it incomposes everyone.
The feel of time is slight,
Being with us day and night.

It never needs to justify or judge,
Certainly it never holds a grudge.
Time is always with use,
Wether we smile, cry, laugh or cuss.

Time is what you make of it,
It doesn't try to be a friend.
If you could travel forwards or back,
Time wouldn't mind in the end.

Time is constantly changing,
Yet it cares enough to stay with us.
Through our changing lives.
It will even try to comfort us,
When we complete the circle of life.

There is only one God: Death. And Time is the rope he uses to slowly pull us towards him.

It is an age old question you analyze, Alan. There are those who would question you by asking what or who allows time to exist. I learned something yesterday that grabbed my attention, and that is that human DNA is actually 'older' that the planet Earth. So where did it come from? Where did we come from? Did this God that people pray to bring us here from somewhere else? The mind boggles, and you poem encourages novel thinking. Blessings, Allen
