This is a song I wrote inspired by a character named Astarion from the video game Baldur's Gate 3.
I can’t savor the taste, can’t afford my own will
Stripped of my own color, left with my name
Just a shooting star for others to claim
If bodies are temples and mine is broken beyond belief
Is it safe to say the gods have abandoned me
The drunks stumble in with stiff drinks
And it always ends up poured on me
I wished for a moment just like this
Well over a century ago
I wished for a love that made the ground soft
And for a future I, myself, chose
No more bowing, no more groveling
Only you may pull the strings
I gift you my heart, though it’s no longer beating
I offer you my eternal, when time is so fleeting
Well over a century ago
I was but a rabid thing
Well over a century ago
I knew nothing but loathing
I wished for a moment just like this
Well over a century ago
I wished for a love that made the ground soft
And for a future I, myself, chose

I’ve said it before that the blood has to spillI can’t savor the taste, can’t afford my own will
Stripped of my own color, left with my name
Just a shooting star for others to claim

Is it safe to say the gods have abandoned me
