fabric of a life
Erstwhile Superfluous DallianceOnce, we wandered in a borrowed hour,
our laughter spilling careless
as coins onto a stranger’s table.
That time — a bright,
unnecessary thing —
wore the lightness of a silk scarf
tossed across the wind.
We traced no maps,
promised nothing,
let the days slip between us
like water through cupped hands.
Yet here, in the marrow
of quiet years, its echo returns —
a faint perfume on an old coat,
a shimmer in glass
when the afternoon turns gold.
What seemed so frivolous
then
now glints with the rare metal
of a memory unplanned,
proof that even a fleeting
and “superfluous” dalliance
can leave a seam of light
in the fabric of a life.
