I Saw

I saw the split lip through which Gaia spoke.
I saw the grass bend when dew grew too heavy.
I saw dark clouds part and behind it, blue sky.
I saw the river rage, and its torrent was breathtaking.

I saw beauty shy away from a cumulus crowd.
I saw her swift steps shimmer to a dark alley.
I saw her kiss a stranger on the teeth.
I saw the bones beneath her face shift and distort.

I saw a butterfly slide back to its cocoon.
I saw birds rip off wings and earthworms fly.
I saw men forget breath, and words grow knives.
I saw silence descend as Gaia wet her lips.
