A Police Report

Case no.: Infinity
Date: Eternity
Reporting Officer: Cupid.
Prepared by: The Poet.
Incident: A Broken Promise.

Detail of Event:

Two fell in love. Two made a promise:
They’d be each other’s constants.
Two tried to make it work but often
One’s efforts were not enough.
When one tried. The other did not.
Then roles reversed, and on and on
For three painful years it swung,
This pendulum, both hypnotized,
Until one went away, the other
followed, brought them back
And tried again.

Actions Taken:

It didn’t work. It didn’t take. And then
The two fell out of love but still
Tried to play pretend and fell
In love with playing because if they
Stopped then that meant loneliness.

They’d stuck their claws into each other
So deep their bones had fused. The two
Had truly become one, and thus
They stuck because to want to part
Meant none of it had been worth it at all.
And this was worth it, right?

Summary:

It wasn’t. The two kept trying until
They splintered and with such great force
They almost shattered. Then went their way.

But even now, they each carry
pieces of the other somewhere
In their bodies. Thus becoming

Each other’s constants. Now the question
Is if a promise was kept or broken?
It seems nobody knows.

one trick pony The PoetBay support member heart!
Even the cool, objective language of the police report can't hide the heat.

I guess this one goes into the cold-case file. Unsolved, unresolved.

A pleasure to read, Sameen.
