Love After Love’s End
What happens to love that’s carriedAfter love’s end? Does it stay in the heart
And rot? Or does it leak out? Is that why
We cry? Are tears shed after parting
That leftover love leaking? If we could
Collect those tears and make them drink
Would they recognize the taste?
And fall in love with us again?
Is that even possible?
And if that happens will the love
That stayed in the heart, almost rotten,
Turn fresh again? Or would we need
To trash that love? But would the stink
Of it have spoiled the heart so much
They who returned would be compelled
To heave and puke then leave again?
Is there no winning
With love after love’s end?
