The Chase
My one foot forward means your two feet flownRight off your shoes; your feet grown wings;
Taking you off to the horizon while I swim
Past seas and rivers to reach where you land
But failing to do so because my one breast stroke
Means your body has passed the sea to reach
The stars, beyond them, perhaps past galaxies
Visible to the naked eye while I try to build
A spaceship to reach where you float
But failing to do so because my one rocket thrust
Means your body has passed the perceivable universe
To somewhere distant, perhaps past what can be thought.
Perhaps you’re at the bosom of God.
Let us pray.
