English Degree

Memories make me ache.
Love is like an English degree.
To be in love is like studying for it.
And to be out of love is like
Graduating with a BFA.
And what comes after is just like
Hunting for jobs with an English degree.

No one will hire you and now
You’ve got so much knowledge on stuff
No one finds any importance
In. And so you’re lost.
Yet you still cling. To what?
The education.
No one has any use for it.
But what was once a joy to learn
Need not have any use.

'Memories make me ache' - great opening line, grabbed me straight âway.
Despite the title, this speaks to me more of love than education - and the end of a relationship leaves one without direction, lost, confused, just as when one comes to the end of a degree course. Where to go from here?

But, yes, they both are a joy to experience - and no experience is wasted.

I always enjoy your work.
