To Be Blunt

Father drinks to get drunk.
Mother complains.
Brother listens with clenched fists.
Sister cries.

Mother continues to complain.
Father continues to drink.

The liquor sloshing inside his mouth
Could ignite dumb embers into riotous flames
But instead he swallows it to quell
Something. What? None know.

Not mother. Who is now sobbing because
Brother has let his fists fly while
Sister sobs alongside mother and
Father now drinks blood not liquor.
