The Search
I woke one cold and clamoring nightFeeling something fall from my tongue
But what?
I got out of bed and fell to the ground
And looked and crawled and looked.
For what?
I turned on the lights and trashed my room.
I jumped up and down, climbed up the walls,
Hung on the ceiling and swam through the floor.
But I couldn't find what I was looking for.
I bundled myself up in the warmest
Clothes I could find in my broken closet
Then left the house and walked a great distance
As nobody was nearby.
Of course, it's the middle of the night.
Of course, I had forgotten my shoes.
Still, though barefoot I walked until
I saw a cop and asked him for help.
I told him all and he patiently listened.
Finally, he asked for my name.
