Abraham & Job: Security Risks
If someone calling himself God
were to ask me to kill someone close to me,
just to find out
whether I would be willing to do it
– for the sheer pleasure of obedience –
I would give him the finger
and watch him split like a troll in sunlight;
in the disinfecting light of awareness – of lucidity
If that same ghastly god-psychopath
were to take the lives of all my children
and leave me sick and wretched,
solely to test my tireless loyalty
to him,
and then imagine I would be content, even happy,
just for being handed a number of new children,
and would forget the earlier ones,
then said divine psychopath would promptly cease
to exist in his only possible habitat:
my intellect
But Abraham & Job submitted to it.
Abraham was on the verge of striking off
his son’s head,
and Job accepted that all his children were murdered
by the one to whom he was to show unbroken fidelity,
and settled for being given new ones
Such is the god the Christians imagine;
such are the people they are.
And it revealed itself in Hitler’s subjects,
in Stalin’s,
and now in the zombies of Trump, Netanyahu, and Putin
Not so strange, is it?
The Bible and its colporteurs
have been pumping out this male ideal;
the standard image of the great Murderer, God the Father,
as the one everyone must love – a truly sick idea
that has become religion,
and made the comfortable little citizen fall into line
as it all goes to hell
The religious (and the pseudo-religious)
are security risks,
even when they swear blind loyalty
to secular gods,
and even if they are merely playing the game
to gain advantages
Do not be deceived by their foolish faces
and their innocent auras
