The Tyger
On my last birthday, we went to Chitwan and on the second day, which was the day of my birth, we booked a whole 12 hour safari with one simple goal: to see a tiger. We got up early, packed our bags, put on suntan, mosquito repellants and ate breakfast carefully. Then we rode to the safari, took a boat to the forest, got on a jeep and went on our way. We saw sloths, rhinos, exotic birds including a peacock, a myriad of deer and many gharials. But even as the sun was diving down into the horizon, no tiger ever came into view. The jeep turned back and forth, delayed its own timeline, because we all wanted to see the gold beast. Finally, we turned back. Un-witnessing. Dejected. That’s when I imagine the tiger came out to eat.Poetry by Sameen
