Its taken sixty odd years to give them what was rightfully theirs in the first place, was it to much to ask for a token of gratitude, parliment should feel ashamed.

Unsung Heroes.

They fought the war
They fought the seas
They fought the weather by degree's
Yet still they fought, six decades and more
Unrecognised upon the shore
These unsung heroes of the war
Who asked a medal nothing more
At last receive the Arctic Star
Short shrift for men who bled and drowned
By parliment at last are crowned
Merchant Seamen, still men of arms
They joined from shops and even farms
They rode the seas to feed supplies
Braved the wolf packs, died like flies
They kept us fed, they kept us strong
Why did our gratitude take so long?

So good to have you back on the bay...your writing continues to evoke such stong emotions and is full of moral thread.
Again, you direct us to truth.

You have obviously written this tribute to our unsung heroes with passionate knowledge and is shows in the fluidity of the writing. As to why? You say it in your introduction really, Ashamed? They don't seem to understand what that word means imo. We live in a shameless society. I thorougly enjoyed the read and thank you for bringing it and them to our attention. Tai
