Chapter 1 - 21 November 2005

Lain: Chapter 1.

The ink around her pupils shone like sapphire in the prancing rain, while her hands seemed tied down by her waist. Her eyes weren’t black; they were more than black. The stare made me feel uneasy as I was leaning my free hand on the car window; the other in front of me trying to guard whatever was in danger. My fingers spread, and somehow seemed manumitted of my skin and bones. The mist smudged the above street-light.

“Who are you, what do you want?” I insisted with shy force.

Her hair, despite the greatness of the cold wind, stayed serene and gelled solid. The darkness was perfect except the arrogance of the orange street-light and the occasional car that beamed faster than the thoughts in my head. The woman, so secretive, began to breathe deeply. The breath iced in mid-air and seemed to fade as it grew further into the open. The kind you could see. The kind, in elegant times, made you realise the fascination.

“Tell me!” I shouted, gritting my lips trying to obscure my fear. “Tell me why you’re stalking me!”

Her silky hair began to sway to the left, towards the closed, abandoned shop.
