Down on the boardwark...

Looks But Never Sees

I do believe she'll never know
Just what it does to me
When every time she passes by
She looks but never sees

I'll not forget the moment
I first saw her passing by
The ocean waves were crashing in
A full moon lit the sky

She sauntered down the old boardwalk
Hair blowing in the breeze
A pretty smile splashed 'cross her face
Her sultry style a tease

My heart stopped cold as she walked by
Oblivious to me
From that night on you'd always find
Me waiting by the sea

I'd stand outside most every night
With hopes she'd pass me by
And dream of dancing in her arms
Beneath a starry sky

One night I tried impressing her
By being smooth and slick
But acting suave and debonair
Just didn't do the trick

She didn't pay me any heed
Or even turn her head
If this keeps up I'll have to think
My dreams are just misled

It's not that I'm a gigolo
Or anyone's Don Juan
I only want to ask her out
To dance 'til morning's dawn

I'm keeping hope that Lady Luck
Will smile on me one day
Might bring a time she'll saunter by
And take my blues away

So if you want to find me on
Most any given night
Just stroll down to the boardwalk
Pass the gate then make a right

You'll see me leaning on the rail
And waiting patiently
For the girl who passes by
And looks but never sees
