Visiting this most magnificent of islands isn't a hop skip and jump affair..

Oh Skye

The road cuts
through the rock
and bares the roots
of history

the seagulls cry
the wounds of thousands
who starved to death
or fell to the whims of lairds

and the oppressions
that garnish most authority
the ruins of castle,
stronghold and croft alike
wail into the gale

connected but not rooted
it is not just the wind
that makes my eyes cloud
with tears
I hear the cries of centuries
and the wails of tomorrow

the heart is touched
and partly lost already
