Christmas Day A Day Of Cheer

I sit back in my armchair
Looking out across the land
Decorations all around me
Though i feel i'm treading sand

Turkey, wine and pudding
Sits idle on the table
On this the day, that Christ was born
Inside a lowly stable

Christmas day a day of cheer
Kind words, good friends and laughter
But those i see are on T.V.
Depicting, happy ever after

Things are not always what they seem
Inside a joyless heart of pain
Through the sea of smiling faces
Till christmas comes again.

Hi Penfold,
Just written a Christmas poem and found out that you have beaten me to it.
Nice to compare the two, yours is the sadder for a change! "Inside a joyless heart of pain" is beautifully put!
Much lurve and Merry Christmas and happy 2006.
